In the famous 52 shakti peeths  Maa ugretara’s name comes on the top. The glory of Maa ugratara is defined in many vadik purans. It is said that once Lord Daksh summoned Mahayagya. There he invited all Hindu deities, saints and his related ones but except his son-in-law Shiva. When Shiva wife came to know about Mahayagya she prayed to Shiva to visit her father’s home. Shiva denied visiting at her father’s home without an invitation and interrupted her to visit. But she hadn’t agreed and went to fire ceremony at her father’s home where she taunted and coerced to jump into sacrificial fire to death. When Lord Shiva came to know about the sacrifice of her wife he shattered the mahayagya and took her carcass onto his shoulder and start dancing tandav in the world. After very long time when lord Shiva hadn’t sacrificed the carcass of her beloved wife then Lord Vishnu started ripping her body one by one with his Sudarshan Chakra.
